Robert,
Will be glad to take you up on that as soon as the party dies down here in Afghanistan. Just tooooooo much fun. But, it sounds like you are having a blast (local expatriots here in Afghanistan understand the pun). Hope I am not disqualified for not being YOUNG. But, I figure I still have a few miles left in me the good Lord willing....
Take care my friend,
Mark

After reading this article, I feel encouraged that our small church donates to this cause of saving lives. This is a great way to put God's word "into action."

Rob, Here are the exact measurements of the cement posts....all measurements are on centers.
WIDTH: 47' 7" LENGTH: 46' 7" HEIGHT: 8' above cement pad
I'm assuming that the spacing between the posts is equal. We didn't measure that. Small variations won't hurt the overall dimensions or structure.
The exact dimensions of the construction materials are:
Costaneras for main triangle of truss 7 x 2 x 1/16" welded together to make a 7 x 4 square tube. Each costanera 41.5 lbs.
Costaneras for extra support of truss 5 x 2 x 1/16" welded together to make a 5x 4 square tube. 30 lbs. each
Costaneras 3 x 2 x 3/64" to connect the trusses together and to use as a base to screw the lamina to the structure. 24 lbs. each
Each truss will weigh just under 400 lbs.
The roofing material I got the quote for is 28 ga. galvanized "Lamina Acanalada." There are thicker and more costly laminas available. I prefer this acanalada lamina because you can bolt it directly to the 3 x 2 costaneras in the "valleys" with polsin screws w/ rubber washers. Each lamina will cover 30 inches of roof area/length. Un "lio" de lamina = 300 inches.
Other materials we will need that were not listed are "Capote" to cover up the ends of the lamina at the peak. I believe that each is about 8 feet, so we will need 8 total with overlap.
We will also need some 2 x 2 x 3/16" angle iron to connect each truss to the re-rod on the posts. We will have to weld that on-site.
This should cover just about everything as far as materials go. I may be heading to "Playa" on Monday and I'll check prices there if I get a chance. Remember that the prices quoted above were in the capital and do not include shipping. Prices in Playa may be a little higher, but shipping will be a lot cheaper.
Rob...I have an up-dated drawing of the truss. The clearance for the tail is 11.5 feet. That should be enough. I'll scan it and send it when I can.....which means I'll take a hi-res photo of it and email it.....because I don't own a scanner!!!!
hablamos pronto, chico
